Samuel Hall conducts research, evaluates programmes and designs policies in contexts of migration and displacement.

We access complex and challenging settings.

Our insights are based on first-hand experience. We have conducted 300+ projects in 60+ countries over 10+ years – including many of the world’s most complex and challenging contexts. Our vast network of local enumerators, researchers and partners means we are not reliant on international travel to continue our work. Where access is impossible, it becomes even more important to gain understanding of conditions on the ground and we employ tried and tested remote collection methods to address knowledge gaps and inform response.

We do advanced data analysis and modelling in-house.

We have the capability to take projects from start to finish without the need to outsource – from data collection to detailed analysis and modelling. A culture of learning means we are always at the forefront of new tools, methods and approaches.

We always include the local perspective.

Local teams drawn from contexts of migration and displacement and our presence on the ground "in the field" help us to reflect what is really going on in the communities we research. At the same time, community engagement is never just as an afterthought – co-design, context sensitivity and asking open questions are important to us.

We create open access tools for better responses.

As a social enterprise, we exist to have a positive impact. Part of this means ensuring that our analysis is made available to the wider community free of charge whenever possible – for example, much of our analysis coding is available for re-use via the Samuel Hall GitHub repository. We promote FAIR data that is findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.
