Nassim highlights how Europe will have to overcome logistical problems and prepare itself for an influx of Afghan asylum claims. The alternative, whereby Afghans at risk of reprisals by the Taliban are left to fend for themselves, is contrary to the Geneva Convention, which governs the protection of civilians during times of war.
