Lelei Cheruto

Project Lead

Lelei joined Samuel Hall as a Research Assistant in 2023 and moved to a Project Lead position within the Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment, and Learning (MEAL) Pillar in 2024. She is a dedicated human rights lawyer and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. Lelei holds a Master's degree in International Law and Human Rights from Åbo Akademi University (Finland), a postgraduate diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Nairobi (Kenya).

She has over five years of experience in research and international human rights advocacy with a focus on gender, sexuality, and migration. She possesses comprehensive knowledge of national, regional, and international legislative frameworks in these fields and has been involved in policy development projects in Uganda, Malawi, South Africa, and Rwanda. Lelei's skills extend to legal research and analysis, policy development, program design and execution, and project management.

As Project Lead, she coordinates teams in collaboration with various organisations to evaluate their programs and measure their impact. Since joining Samuel Hall, she has worked on project and program evaluations, scoping studies, gender evaluations and programmatic reviews. Lelei oversees project cycle management, designs and implements MEAL tools, and ensures projects assess and report tangible impact for the populations involved. She has worked with clients such as UNICEF, the World University Services of Canada, the Aga Khan Foundation, and the Mastercard Foundation across Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, Syria, and Lebanon.
