Research Assistant Intern

Sofie joined Samuel Hall in January 2024 as a Research Assistant Intern in the Research and Policy Pillar. She holds two Master's degrees in Islamic Studies and Muslim Cultures Studies from Columbia University and the Aga Khan University Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations in London, specialising in medieval intellectual history. Her Bachelor's degree is from Middlebury College, in International & Global Studies and Arabic, where she specialized in humanitarian aid, refugee studies, and Middle Eastern politics.

Prior to joining Samuel Hall, she worked as Program Coordinator for the Middle East Institute of Columbia University, where she facilitated conferences and events on topics such as Gulf Oil politics, the US Invasion of Iraq, Sharia Law, and Islamic philosophy. She also worked at a startup school in Morocco creating and delivering youth education outreach programming. She has also translated 10 children's books from Arabic to English on behalf of a Jordanian publishing house and helped found an online English-Arabic language exchange.
